KIYODA ORPHANAGE CARE PROGRAMME 880,000 children were orphaned in Uganda during the AIDS epidemic of the 1990s. 60% of the population are illiterate, secondary education is not state-funded, if parents can’t afford to send their children to school then they don’t go. Instead they are likely to end up working on their relatives’ land from a very young age. To go to school is a luxury reserved for those who can afford it. At KIYODA we believe we can change this. We run the orphanage for children who would otherwise be on the streets shining shoes or begging. Disabled children
KIYODA started working with disabled children, young people and their families because they need specialist help and support, and generally suffer from a wide variation in the quality of services they receive. |
HIV/AIDS Awareness, Reproductive Health and Family Planning Programme.
The Program aims to limit the spread of HIV/AIDS in the rural populations of Kalungu town council Kalungu District . The program promotes education of the youth to raise their awareness about HIV/AIDS and to adopt a more responsible sexual behavior, whilst fighting stigma and discrimination that affect the people living with HIV and AIDS. Income generation Program The income generating projects are designed to improve the overall living conditions of the villagers. During many education sessions, KIYODA volunteers have noticed that although the villagers understood the importance of using mosquito nets, soap, condoms and other health promoting facilities, very few of them could afford them. The bee keeping project aimed to improve the income of local widowers. KIYODA has provided them with skills and capacity to produce process and sell honey as way of rural poverty reduction. KIYODA provides technical and financial assistance to a series of small scale projects of the local clubs and cooperatives. The small scale projects frameset include cassava growing, vegetables growing, rice growing and handcrafts projects. If you'd like to make a contribution, CONTACT US to
